Dropped My Cherry

So I had my first attempt the other night at taking water drop photos. After watching some intriguing videos on YouTube from a very interesting and creative photographer Bryan Peterson. He showed how to capture a strawberry being dropped into a jar of water. So I just had to give it a try myself. I am kicking myself that I didn’t take a photo of the lighting setup and arrangement of different water glasses I used but basically this was what I used.

2 Painters Lights
2 150 watt CFL bulbs
1 “cheapo” tripod
5 borrowed plastic clamps
2 sheets of translucent drawing paper
2 car windshield reflectors (to use as light reflectors)
1 t-square
1 bottle sparkling water
5 cherries
1 martini glass

Since I am still learning how to appropriately light things and it took me awhile to get the cherry looking as bright as I wanted it against the overexposed water. I also struggled with motion blur from the cherry itself. I took over 400 photos to finally get something I was happy with. It was the Goldie locks experience. Either it was to high or to low, I never could seem to get it “just right”. I was happy with the outcome in the end. I never did get the exact shot I wanted. But, with everything it’s a learning experience. Maybe next time.

Here is Mr. Peterson showing how he accomplished this task.. He made it look much easier than it was.
